North Korean leader Kim Jong Un started a significant meeting with his country’s ruling party on Friday. This news came from the state media outlet, KCNA, on Saturday. The meeting happened a little more than a week after North Korea and Russia made a military defense agreement, which worried the United States.
The meeting, known as the 10th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, took place on Friday. During this gathering, five main topics were approved, although KCNA did not provide details about what these topics were.
Kim Jong Un was in charge of the meeting, the main purpose was to look back at the work done in the first half of the year and to decide on several important issues that need immediate attention. The statement did not specify what these issues were but emphasized their importance.
On June 19, North Korea and Russia brought back an agreement from the Cold War era. This agreement was made when their leaders met in Pyongyang. It states that they would provide military assistance to each other if either country is attacked. This revival of their old pact has raised concerns in the United States, as it signals stronger military ties between North Korea and Russia.
