On Monday, a children’s hospital in Kyiv, Ukraine, was hit by a missile, causing significant damage and raising concerns globally. The incident occurred amid a series of airstrikes across Ukraine, which Ukrainian authorities say were launched by Russia.
The Kremlin, however, has denied responsibility for the attack on the hospital. Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for the Kremlin, stated on Tuesday that Ukrainian anti-missile fire, not a Russian missile, was responsible for the damage. Peskov provided no evidence to support this claim and insisted that Russia does not target civilian areas.
Ukrainian Authorities’ Response
In contrast, Ukrainian officials have asserted that a Russian Kh-101 Kalibr missile struck the hospital. The Ukrainian Security Service reported finding fragments of the missile at the site, including parts with serial numbers and pieces of the guidance system. These findings were presented as evidence that Russia was responsible for the attack.
The strike on the hospital was part of a broader wave of airstrikes that hit multiple cities across Ukraine on Monday. This assault resulted in the deaths of at least 41 civilians, marking it as one of the deadliest days in recent months.
Ukrainian authorities are working to provide aid to the injured and support to the families affected by the tragedy.
When questioned about the hospital attack and the broader issue of civilian casualties, Peskov reiterated that the Russian Ministry of Defence does not target civilian areas. He urged the public to trust the Ministry’s statements, which claimed that the damage was caused by a falling anti-missile system.
