The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant progress in its investigation into the NEET-UG paper leak, announcing fresh arrests on Tuesday. Sunny Kumar, a NEET-UG candidate from Nalanda, and Ranjit Kumar from Gaya, father of Sunny Kumar, were among those detained, bringing the total number of arrests to 11, according to officials.

In Bihar alone, the CBI has arrested eight individuals linked to the NEET-UG paper leak and has made additional arrests in Gujarat’s Latur and Godhra, as well as in Dehradun for alleged involvement in broader conspiracies related to the examination.

The CBI’s probe, now spanning multiple states, involves six FIRs addressing various aspects of the alleged irregularities. The Bihar FIR focuses on the paper leak, while cases from Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra deal with impersonation and cheating incidents.

The agency initiated its investigation following a reference from the Union Education Ministry, aiming for a comprehensive examination of the alleged malpractices.

Supreme Court Demands Accountability in NEET-UG Case

The Supreme Court has intervened in the NEET-UG controversy, underscoring its seriousness. Recently, the Court acknowledged the compromised nature of the May 5th exam due to the paper leak. It directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the government to submit detailed affidavits, demanding a status report from the CBI by July 10th.

Expressing concern, the Supreme Court also instructed the NTA to outline measures taken to identify candidates who may have benefited from the leaked papers. The case is set for its next hearing on July 11th, highlighting ongoing judicial scrutiny and efforts to restore integrity to the NEET-UG examination process.

NEET-UG Exam Overview

NEET-UG, conducted annually by the NTA, is a critical gateway for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses in both public and private institutions across India. This year’s exam, held on May 5th, saw participation from over 23 lakh candidates across 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 international locations.

The ongoing investigation and judicial proceedings underscore the gravity of the situation, aiming to uphold fairness and transparency in one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations.
