Recently, there have been rumors about President Joe Biden’s health, specifically regarding Parkinson’s disease. These rumors were addressed by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who firmly denied that the President is being treated for Parkinson’s. She stated that he has never been treated or taken medication for this condition.
President Biden Addresses Age Concerns
President Biden, who is 81 years old, wrote a letter to Democrats in Congress acknowledging concerns about his age. Despite these concerns, he expressed his determination to continue his presidential campaign and urged for unity to defeat former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
Reports from news agencies revealed that Dr. Kevin Cannard, a neurologist who specializes in movement disorders and Parkinson’s disease, visited the White House eight times between last summer and this spring. One of these visits included a meeting in January with Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor. The exact reasons for these visits are not clear.
Jean-Pierre explained that President Biden has seen a neurologist three times as part of his annual physical exams.
She quoted the neurologists’ findings from February, which indicated no signs of central neurological disorders such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, or ascending lateral sclerosis. Jean-Pierre reiterated that Biden is not being treated for Parkinson’s and has no such condition.
Clarifications from the White House
White House spokesman Andrew Bates added that many specialists from the Walter Reed medical system visit the White House to treat military personnel who work there. This explanation helps clarify why various medical professionals, including neurologists, might visit the White House.

Despite these reassurances, some political figures, including US Representative Adam Smith, have suggested that President Biden should consider dropping out of the presidential race. Smith, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, voiced this opinion during an interview with CNN. In addition, some of Biden’s close political allies, like former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, have also raised questions about his health.
Biden’s Determination
Despite the ongoing debate about his age and health, President Biden remains committed to running for re-election. He continues to focus on his campaign, undeterred by the concerns and calls for reconsideration from some political figures.
The discussion around President Biden’s health and age will likely continue as the 2024 presidential race approaches. This issue remains a significant focus point for supporters and critics as they evaluate his ability to serve another term.
