In a shocking development in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, sources revealed that the accused, Mihir Shah, allegedly used a false identity card indicating his age as 27 to gain entry into a pub, despite being officially 23 years old. The legal drinking age in Mumbai is 25.
The pub’s management claimed that Mr. Shah presented an ID showing he was 27 years old before they allowed him entry. Three of his friends who accompanied him to the pub are over 30 years old.
In a related action, the Mumbai civic agency demolished a portion of the pub that was found to be illegally constructed. The incident involved Kaveri Nakva and her husband Pradik Nakva, who were on a two-wheeler when the BMW driven by Mr. Shah, son of the sacked Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, rammed their scooty and sped away.
Police reports indicate that multiple CCTV footage captured the speeding BMW dragging Ms. Nakva, who was stuck on the bonnet, for 1.5 kilometers. Mr. Shah then stopped the car, exchanged seats with his driver, removed Ms. Nakva’s body from underneath the engine bay and the bumper, and left her on the road. The driver reversed the BMW and ran over her body before the car disappeared from CCTV view.
Authorities stated that Mr. Shah’s friends were involved in attempts to destroy evidence. Mr. Shah will be confronted with another arrested accused, Rajrishi Bidawat, to clarify the facts and discrepancies in the case.
The police noted that the BMW’s number plate was removed and discarded after the accident. They are investigating whether Mr. Shah contacted anyone for assistance in destroying evidence post-accident. Additionally, police are probing who helped Mr. Shah evade capture for three days.
