Tesla CEO and X chairperson Elon Musk, a vocal critic of US President Joe Biden, has made a substantial donation to a political group supporting Republican Donald Trump’s bid for the White House, according to a Bloomberg report. While the exact amount is unspecified, sources describe it as “sizeable.”
Previously stating he wouldn’t financially support either Trump or Biden, Musk contributed to America PAC, a political action committee. The PAC is set to disclose its donor list on Monday, July 15. This development is particularly notable given Musk’s background as a South African immigrant to the US, now supporting a candidate known for strict anti-immigration policies. Despite this donation, Musk has not publicly endorsed any candidate.
Musk’s contribution comes as Trump surpasses Biden in fundraising, bolstered by Wall Street and corporate donors, Bloomberg reported. Biden’s fundraising efforts have waned following a contentious presidential debate with Trump, sparking health concerns and prompting some Democrats to urge Biden to withdraw from the race.
Trump, anticipated to be officially nominated as the Republican candidate for the November 5 US elections, met with Musk and other donors in March. Two months later, Musk denied media reports suggesting he might take on an advisory role if Trump wins.
“Elon Musk knows Trump is a sucker who will sell America out, cutting his taxes while raising taxes on the middle class by $2,500. Joe Biden has been standing up to people like Elon and fighting for the middle class his entire career — and it’s why he’ll win in November,” Biden’s campaign spokesperson James Singer told media persons.
