Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and initiated several ambitious projects worth over Rs 29,400 crores during his recent visit to Mumbai. This marked his first visit to the city after beginning his third consecutive term as Prime Minister following the NDA’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections.
Among the key projects launched was the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project, with an estimated cost exceeding Rs 6,300 crore. This project aims to enhance road connectivity from Goregaon on the Western Express Highway to Mulund on the Eastern Express Highway, spanning approximately 6.65 kilometers. Once completed, it will directly connect the Western suburbs to the proposed new airport in Navi Mumbai and the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.

Additionally, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Kalyan Yard Remodelling, which will segregate long-distance and suburban train traffic. This initiative is expected to increase the yard’s capacity significantly, thereby reducing congestion and improving operational efficiency.
Moreover, the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai, set to cover more than 32,600 square meters, aims to provide additional employment opportunities and serve as a hub for handling cement and other commodities.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extended Platforms No. 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station. These enhancements will accommodate longer trains and increase passenger capacity, addressing the growing demand for efficient railway infrastructure in Mumbai.

Further, PM Modi launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a comprehensive internship program with an allocation of approximately Rs 5,600 crore. This initiative targets youth unemployment by offering skill development and industry exposure opportunities to young individuals aged 18 to 30 years.
These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, connectivity, and employment prospects in Mumbai, marking a significant step towards inclusive development and economic growth in the region.
