India has decided to set aside $1 billion to expedite the construction of 12 hydroelectric units in Arunachal Pradesh, located in the northeast Himalayas. Sources expect the government to include this announcement in the budget on July 23, 2024, as a broader strategy to upgrade border infrastructure amid ongoing hostilities with China Under Nirmala Sitharaman’s direction, the Indian finance ministry has authorized financial assistance for hydropower projects up to 7.5 billion rupees ($89.85 million), amounting to a total projected 90 billion rupees ($1 billion) for the entire project.
