Mumbai’s first underground metro, the Aqua Line (Metro 3), will start running on July 24. This new line is expected to make traveling easier for people in Mumbai.
Vinod Tawde, BJP national general secretary, announced this on Wednesday through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to make life easier for Mumbaikars, and this new metro line is a step towards fulfilling that promise.

The Aqua Line will connect important areas in Mumbai like Colaba, SEEPZ, and Bandra. The route stretches for 33.5 kilometers, from Aarey Colony to Cuffe Parade, and will have 27 stops along the way.
Unlike Line 1, which was built with the help of private partner Reliance, the construction of Line 3 was managed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
Benefits of the New Line
According to a post by the government of India on X, the Aqua Line will transform urban transit in Mumbai by easing travel and reducing traffic congestion. The new metro line can carry up to 17 lakh (1.7 million) passengers daily, with 3,000 people able to board at the same time.
The entire project cost is estimated to be Rs 23,136 crore. A large part of this funding came from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

Current Metro Lines in Mumbai
At present, Mumbai has three operational metro lines: Line 1, Line 2A, and Line 7. Several other lines are still under construction. The addition of Line 3 will improve connectivity in the city, particularly for people traveling from South Mumbai.
In May, a series of successful trial runs were conducted, during these trials, the metro operated smoothly from Aarey Colony to Dadar.
The new Aqua Line is a significant development in Mumbai’s public transportation system, promising faster and more convenient travel for its residents.
