On Saturday, a goods train derailed in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, causing several of its coaches to overturn. The accident happened near the Kalyanpura railway gate, disrupting the Delhi-Lucknow railway line. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties from this incident so far.
Railway officials were quick to respond and rushed to the scene to manage the situation. The derailment has caused significant disruptions to train services between Delhi and Lucknow, affecting passengers and freight schedules.
This derailment follows a recent tragic incident where a Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express train derailed between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. On Thursday, this earlier accident resulted in the deaths of at least four passengers and left over 30 others injured. The train had eight coaches derail, and the driver reported hearing a “sound of a blast” before the derailment occurred.
In response to the Gonda derailment, the Central Government has announced financial assistance for the victims. The family of each deceased passenger will receive Rs 10 lakh, while those with serious injuries will get Rs 2.5 lakh, and those with minor injuries will be compensated with Rs 50,000.
The Railways Ministry has launched a thorough investigation into both incidents. The focus is on verifying whether a minor explosion occurred before the train’s derailment in Gonda. A commissioner of railway safety has been appointed to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter.
