The Haryana government has ordered the suspension of mobile internet and bulk SMS services in Nuh district for 24 hours starting Sunday evening, in anticipation of the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra. This measure follows last year’s violence during the same event.
The suspension, which began at 6 pm Sunday and will continue until 6 pm Monday, was announced by Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Anurag Rastogi. The order, based on feedback from Additional DGP-CID Haryana and the Deputy Commissioner, cited concerns over potential tension, agitation, and disturbance to public peace and safety in the district.
The action aims to “stop the spread of misinformation and rumours” via social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter.
In a related development, Nuh Police confirmed that tight security arrangements have been made to ensure the Yatra proceeds without incident.
On July 31 last year, violence erupted during a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession in Nuh, resulting in the deaths of two home guards and injuries to at least 15 others, including several policemen. The same night, a mosque in Gurugram was attacked, and its naib imam was killed.
The interfaith clash led to the deaths of at least six people and left many injured. The BJP government, led by Manohar Khattar at the time, faced strong criticism from opposition parties over the handling of the violence.
