India’s archery team, consisting of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Jadhav, has directly qualified for the quarter-finals at the Paris Olympics 2024. The team secured this spot by finishing third in the Men’s Archery Ranking Round on July 25, with a total score of 2013 points.
South Korea topped the rankings with 2049 points, followed by France with 2025 points. China, finishing fourth with 1998 points, also secured a place in the quarter-finals along with India.
Dhiraj Bommadevara had an impressive performance, starting in 11th place and making an incredible comeback to finish in 5th place. Tarundeep Rai also performed well, finishing in 14th place, while Pravin Jadhav faced some challenges and ended in 39th place. Despite these individual scores, their combined efforts guided India to a third-place finish overall.

Tarundeep Rai began his first round with a subtle performance, scoring 55 points from his first six shots, including two ten-pointers and an eight-pointer. He improved in the second round, scoring 113 points with a bullseye, three consecutive 10s, and two nine-pointers. By the end of the ranking round, Tarundeep finished in 14th place with a total of 337 points.
Dhiraj Bommadevara had a rough start, scoring 57 points in his first six shots. His performance in the second round was modest, with 53 points, followed by 56 points in the third round. This initial performance placed him at 36th. However, Dhiraj’s remarkable 56 points in the fourth round, which included three 10-pointers, pushed him to 27th place. He continued to excel, hitting three consecutive bullseyes in the fifth round and finishing with a total of 335 points.
Pravin Jadhav amazed many with his two bullseyes in the first four rounds, scoring a total of 217 points. However, he struggled to maintain this level and finished the first half with 328 points, ranking 37th. Despite these challenges, the Indian team’s combined efforts ensured their third-place finish.

Dhiraj’s magnificent comeback defined the Indian contingent’s second half. Starting the second half with a clear goal, he scored 173 points in the first three rounds, including four bullseyes. His sharp focus and accuracy allowed him to hit five more bullseyes in the following rounds, finishing fourth with 346 points. Tarundeep, however, lost some of his early momentum and could only manage two bullseyes in his second half of shots, finishing with 337 points.
India’s archery team, through their collective determination and skill, has earned a spot in the quarter-finals at the Paris Olympics 2024, showcasing their potential and promise on the international stage.
