This decision was influenced by the desire to leverage the brand name of Bengaluru.
Cabinet Meeting Details
The decision was made during a cabinet meeting where the proposal submitted by Ramanagara legislators was discussed and accepted. The proposal highlighted the benefits of associating the district with the globally recognized name of Bengaluru.
Patil clarified that the change is solely related to the district’s name, and the taluks (sub-divisions) within the district will remain unaffected. The Revenue Department will be responsible for initiating the official process to notify the change.
The renaming of the district is expected to bring various benefits, including potential economic and developmental advantages, by associating it with Bengaluru, a major hub of commerce and technology in India. However, the daily administrative functions and local governance will continue as before, with only the district’s name being altered.
The decision to rename Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South district is a significant move by the Karnataka state cabinet, aimed at fulfilling the wishes of local residents and taking advantage of the prestigious Bengaluru brand. The formal process of notification will be undertaken by the Revenue Department soon, marking the official change in the district’s name.
