India is sending a strong 117-member team to the Paris Olympics 2024, aiming to surpass its best-ever performance of seven medals at the Tokyo Olympics. The athletes are ready to compete in 16 sports, with high hopes of winning medals.
Badminton star PV Sindhu and table tennis veteran Sharath Kamal will be India’s flag bearers at the Paris 2024 Parade of Nations. PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, and Sharath Kamal, participating in his fifth Olympics, symbolize India’s strength and experience.
The Paris Olympics will run from July 27 to August 11. India will aim to win more than the seven medals (one gold, two silver, and four bronze) they secured in Tokyo 2020. The first medal opportunity for India will be on July 27 during the mixed team air rifle matches at the National Shooting Centre in Chateauroux. India’s shooting contingent, consisting of 21 members, is the second-largest team sent by the country for any sport at the Olympics.
Shooting Team
The 21-member shooting team, the largest in India’s Olympic history, includes strong contenders like Sandeep Singh, Elavenil Valarivan, Arjun Babuta, and Ramita Jindal. The shooting events will continue until August 3, with daily opportunities to win medals.
Athletics Team
India’s 29-member athletics team is led by javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic and World champion. He will compete in the men’s javelin throw qualifiers on August 6, with the final on August 8. Other athletes to watch include Sarvesh Kushare in high jump and Avinash Sable in the 3000m steeplechase.
Archery Team
Archers Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai will compete in the individual ranking rounds on July 25, making them the first Indians in action before the opening ceremony on July 26. They are strong medal hopefuls for India in archery.
Badminton Team
PV Sindhu aims for her third Olympic medal, competing from July 27 to August 5. The doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, currently ranked third in the world, are also strong contenders for a medal.
