The Odisha government has unveiled a significant new initiative to support Agniveers, the soldiers who have completed their service under the central government’s Agniveer scheme. On Friday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi declared a 10 percent reservation for Agniveers in the state’s uniformed services, including police and other security roles. In addition, Agniveers will benefit from a five-year relaxation in the age limit for recruitment into these positions.
Chief Minister Majhi, who announced before heading to Delhi for the NITI Aayog governing council meeting, highlighted the importance of this move. He emphasized that Agniveers, having undergone rigorous training with the Indian Armed Forces, are well-prepared to contribute to various security-related roles within the state.
“The Agniveer scheme is a landmark initiative introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Majhi said. “This scheme is designed to enhance the skills and capabilities of our youth, making them more resilient and equipped to handle various challenges. It is only fitting that we extend our support to these trained individuals by providing them opportunities within our state’s uniformed services.”
The new policy reflects the state government’s recognition of the value Agniveers bring to public service. By offering them a special quota and easing age restrictions, Odisha aims to integrate these well-trained individuals into state security forces, thereby strengthening their operational effectiveness and contribution to public safety.
This announcement aligns with broader efforts to leverage the skills of Agniveers, ensuring that their training and experience continue to benefit the nation beyond their initial service period.
