In a significant move, the Rajasthan government will offer reservations for Agniveers in the recruitment process for jail guards, forest guards, and state police. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Kargil Vijay Diwas, celebrated on July 26.
A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office revealed that this decision aims to honor the dedication and patriotism of Agniveers, who protect the nation’s borders. The government’s provision for reservation will specifically benefit Agniveers seeking employment in state services after their military tenure.
Chief Minister Sharma highlighted that this initiative is in line with the guidance provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He emphasized that Agniveers, after serving the country, will have the opportunity to continue contributing to state security through roles in the police, jail, and forest departments.
The exact percentage of reservation for Agniveers in these services has not yet been disclosed by the state government.
The Agnipath scheme, introduced by the Centre in 2022, recruits youths aged between 17-and-a-half and 21 for the Army, Navy, and Air Force on a four-year contractual basis. Those recruited under this scheme are known as Agniveers. After completing their four-year tenure, 25 percent of each batch of Agniveers will be offered regular service in the military.

In addition to the state’s initiative, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier announced that 10 percent of vacancies in the Central Armed Police Forces and paramilitary forces would be reserved for ex-Agniveers. Several other state governments have also made similar provisions for recruiting retired Agniveers into their respective police forces.
This decision by the Rajasthan government is expected to provide significant employment opportunities for Agniveers, ensuring that their skills and dedication continue to benefit the nation even after their military service.
