A plan by Pakistan’s ISI and the Khalistani terror group Babbar Khalsa International to disrupt the Amarnath Yatra have been uncovered reportedly by Intelligence agencies.
The intelligence inputs indicate that ISI plans to target Amarnath Yatra pilgrims by using Punjab’s gangster networks, radical groups, and terrorist organisations to execute an attack during the pilgrimage.
‘ISI is using Babbar Khalsa International to target BJP leaders and Hindu figures in Punjab and Delhi’, according to the media reports. An intelligence alert noted in June the presence of suspected terrorists with advanced weaponry in a village near Pathankot, leading to a swift search operation.
Recently a Hindu preacher in Punjab received a threat letter from a group claiming allegiance to Khalistan, prompting Punjab Police to register an FIR and begin a search for those responsible. Over 4 lakh devotees have participated in the ongoing Yatra to the holy cave of Baba Amarnath in the last 28 days.
The holy cave shrine is situated at an altitude of 3,888 metres above sea level in Jammu & Kashmir. Devotees approach the cave shrine either from the traditional south Kashmir (Pahalgam) route or the north Kashmir (Baltal) route.
The Pahalgam-cave shrine route is 48 km long and it takes Yatris four to five days to reach the shrine. The Baltal-cave shrine route is 14 km long and it takes one day for the pilgrims to have ‘Darshan’ and return to the base camp.
