On Wednesday evening, heavy rainfall lashed Delhi and its vicinity, including Noida, causing waterlogging in several areas. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert and released an advisory for Delhi residents requesting them to avoid travel until necessary.
It said, ‘Avoid going to areas that face water logging problems often’. The National Flash Flood Guidance Bulletin also included Delhi in its list of areas of concern. The rain also disrupted air traffic as many flights were affected due to adverse weather conditions. On Wednesday, over 10 flights were diverted eight to Jaipur and two to Lucknow due to weather conditions.
‘Traffic is affected on Rohtak Road in the carriageway from Nangloi towards Tikri Border and vice -versa due to heavy water logging and potholes on road in Mundka. For people planning to travel via the Golf Course Road from Sector 16B is, ‘Traffic is affected on Golf Course Road in the carriageway from Sector 16 B, Dwarka Crossing towards Dhoolsiras due to uprooting of a tree on the main road in front of Pink Apartments. Commuters are advised to avoid the stretch and plan their journey accordingly’.
IMD predicts intermittent rainfall in Delhi till August 5. The Najafgarh station recorded 113 mm rainfall and the Lodhi Road, Delhi University and Safdarjung observatories recorded 107.5 mm, 104.5 mm, and 105.6 mm rainfall respectively. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the Salwan School Station Mayur Vihar in East Delhi and NCMRWF, Noida Sector 62 in Gautam Buddha Nagar recorded the maximum rainfall measuring 142 mm and 139.5 mm from 8:30 am July 31 to 7:15 am today.
