At least 11 people have died in Uttarakhand over the past 24 hours due to heavy rainfall. The authorities have been working tirelessly to rescue stranded pilgrims and provide aid to affected areas.
In Haridwar, a house collapsed in the Dera Basti area on Wednesday night, leading to the deaths of four people, including 10-year-old Aas Mohammad and 8-year-old Nagma. Six others were seriously injured, while two suffered minor injuries.
The tragedy also struck Roorkee, where two individuals were electrocuted at the city bus station.
Tehri Garhwal Cloudburst
In Tehri Garhwal district, a cloudburst in Ghansali tehsil resulted in a hotel near Gadera being washed away. Three people lost their lives in this incident. Two bodies were recovered on Wednesday night, and another injured person succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital.
In Dehradun, heavy rains caused Arjun Singh Rana, 55, and Sundar Singh, 35, to be swept away in a drain near the Ordnance Factory late Wednesday night.
In Nainital, a search operation was launched by local police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) after receiving information that 7-year-old Rizwan had been swept away in a drain on Wednesday.
Kedarnath Pilgrims Stranded
Approximately 450 Kedarnath pilgrims were stranded due to road damage around 70 meters ahead of Bhimbali Chowki. By 11:45 am on Thursday, 200 pilgrims were rescued via helicopter from Lincholli. Efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining 250 pilgrims. The rising water level of the Mandakini River in Sonprayag also led to the evacuation of people living on the riverbank.

Three houses in Thati village were evacuated due to heavy rain in the Budha Kedar area. In Chamoli, a house collapsed at Belchori, and a woman and a child were reported missing. An SDRF team has been dispatched to the location.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated on Thursday that relief and rescue operations are being conducted in the affected areas, including Rambada, Bhimbali, and Jakhaniyali. He is in constant communication with the administration and local public representatives to assess the damage and ensure immediate action.
Dhami emphasized that the safety of residents and visitors is the state’s top priority. He urged everyone to travel only after checking the weather and the situation. Earlier, he had appealed to people to stay indoors and only leave their houses if necessary.
