In Himachal Pradesh, a cloudburst has led to devastating floods, with around 50 people feared dead. The state’s Minister, Vikramaditya Singh, reported that a precise count of casualties would be available only after a thorough search and rescue operation. The government is currently focused on recovering bodies and restoring connectivity in the affected areas.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh until August 7. To support families affected by the floods, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced financial aid of Rs 50,000 for each affected household.
The IMD has also issued a red alert for several regions across India. For August 3, 2024, a red alert is in place for Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, and Meghalaya. The IMD forecasts isolated, extremely heavy rainfall in Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, Goa, and Meghalaya.
Thunderstorms with lightning are expected in isolated areas of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Bihar.
In Maharashtra, a red alert has been declared for Satara district on August 3 and 4, with extremely heavy rain predicted for Palghar and Pune districts on August 4. The IMD anticipates very heavy rainfall in Vidarbha on August 3 and in the Marathwada region on August 3 and 4.
Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also expected in Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa on August 4. The weather agency forecasts heavy rain from August 3 to 6 in Madhya Maharashtra and from August 3 to 7 in Konkan and Goa.
The IMD has also predicted widespread, light to moderate rainfall over Coastal Karnataka, Lakshadweep, and Kerala, as well as isolated to scattered rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, and Rayalaseema in the coming days.

In Kerala, heavy rainfall is expected until August 5, as the state continues to deal with the aftermath of a recent landslide in Wayanad, which has claimed over 300 lives.
In the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall has been reported in various regions, including Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Gujarat, and Madhya Maharashtra.
Other areas experiencing significant rainfall include Kerala, Punjab, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Saurashtra and Kutch, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Konkan and Goa, Bihar, Odisha, North Interior Karnataka, West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura.
