India is into the semi-finals of Paris Olympics 2024 men’s hockey after beating Great Britain via shoot-out at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir.
India is one win away from a second successive medal at the Olympics. They will now face either Germany or Argentina in the semi-finals. India, who were reduced to 10-man in the 17th minute of the match, defied odds to take the lead through Harmanpreet Singh, who scored his seventh goal of the tournament.
Harmanpreet converted a penalty corner in the 22nd minute before Lee Morton equalised for Great Britain five minutes later. This came after India had a man sent-off in Amit Rohidas. While the match ended 1-1 after full-time, India advanced to the semi-finals after winning the shoot-out 4-2.
Great Britain dominated most part of the match, courtesy to the player advantage, but India’s watertight defence, along with PR Sreejesh’s excellence helped things remain as it is throughout the regulation time.
The action then moved into the shootout and Great Britain kicked-off the proceedings. Harmanpreet stepped up for the first attempt for India. The skipper, Sukhjeet Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, and Raj Kumar Pal didn’t make any mistake. Great Britain James Albery and Zach Wallace managed to score, while Conor Williamson’s attempt went wide of the goalpost.
