On Tuesday, Air India announced that it will continue operating its evening flights AI237/238 on the Delhi-Dhaka-Delhi route. This decision comes even as Dhaka faces significant unrest following recent street protests over job quotas, which led to the resignation and departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
In light of the current situation, Air India has offered a special waiver for passengers with bookings on flights to and from Dhaka between August 4 and August 7, 2024. This waiver allows travelers to reschedule their flights without incurring additional charges. The waiver is available for tickets booked on or before August 5, 2024.
Earlier on Monday, as public unrest in Bangladesh escalated, Air India had temporarily suspended all flights to and from Dhaka. The airline stated that the decision was made to ensure the safety of passengers and crew. They emphasized that the situation is being closely monitored and that support is being provided to affected passengers through the one-time waiver.
Apart from Air India, other airlines have also adjusted their services. Vistara, which is owned by the Tata Group, cancelled its flights to Dhaka on Tuesday. Vistara usually operates two daily flights from Delhi to Dhaka. However, the airline plans to resume its services as scheduled on Wednesday. Vistara also offers daily flights from Mumbai and three weekly flights from Delhi to Dhaka.
IndiGo, another major carrier, also cancelled its flights to Dhaka on Tuesday. Typically, IndiGo runs one daily flight each from Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai to Dhaka, as well as two daily flights from Kolkata. An update on IndiGo’s flights for Wednesday is still pending.
As the situation in Bangladesh continues to evolve, travelers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates and possible changes to their flight schedules.
