On August 5, the Indian Navy’s frontline frigate, INS Tabar, carried out a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) with the German Navy off the Kiel Canal. This exercise occurred during INS Tabar’s return journey from St Petersburg, Russia, where it had been stationed.
The Ministry of Defence highlighted that the Indian Navy’s visit to Hamburg, Germany, from July 17 to 20, was part of its broader efforts to strengthen maritime relations with Germany.
The Maritime Partnership Exercise was aimed at enhancing the maritime cooperation between India and Germany. The exercise took place off the Kiel Canal, a significant waterway in the North Sea. The operations involved various advanced maritime activities, including Ship Controlled Approaches, Winching exercises, and Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP) serials. These maneuvers are crucial for improving coordination and operational efficiency between naval forces.
Units from both the Indian and German navies showcased their professionalism and dedication throughout the exercise. The collaboration included the Sea Lynx helicopters from the German Navy’s 3rd Squadron Naval Air Wing 5 (MFG5), which participated in the maritime operations alongside INS Tabar.
The high level of engagement demonstrated a mutual commitment to enhancing joint capabilities and sharing best practices in maritime security.
The Indian Navy emphasized that this exercise underscores its commitment to building robust partnerships with navies worldwide. The MPX with the German Navy not only reinforced the strong bilateral naval ties between India and Germany but also highlighted their shared values and dedication to global peace and security. The successful completion of this exercise marks a significant milestone in the ongoing maritime cooperation between the two nations.
