Obaidul Hassan, the Chief Justice of Bangladesh has stepped down from his post amid unrest in the country. This development comes amid ‘gherao’ of the Bangladesh Supreme Court by the protestors.
Obaidul Hassan, the Chief Justice of Bangladesh has resigned from his post. According to the media reports, he has decided to step down from his post as the head of the judiciary body of Bangladesh in the face of protest by Students Against Discrimination.
The protestors had surrounded the Supreme Court and had given an ultimatum to the Chief Justice and judges of Appellate Division, to resign by 1 PM. The protestors had said that if the Chief Justice and judges failed to step down, the protestors would block the residence of the judges.
The advisor of the Youth and Sports Ministry of Interim Govt, Asif Mahmud had posted on Facebook, demanding an unconditional resignation of the Chief Justice and also stop the full court meeting.
On Saturday thousands of Hindus took to streets in Dhaka to protest against the alleged killing of minority Hindus and defacement of Hindu Temples in Bangladesh. This comes as days after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India after being forced to resign, marking a new shift in country’s political landscape.
