The Bombay High Court, established on 14 August 1862, is one of India’s oldest High Courts, alongside the Calcutta and Madras High Courts. It was created under the Indian High Courts Act of 1861, which unified the courts and transferred judicial authority from the East India Company to the British government. The court’s jurisdiction covers Maharashtra, Goa, Dadra-Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu, with its headquarters in Mumbai and benches in Nagpur, Aurangabad, and Goa. The current English-Gothic style building, constructed between 1871 and 1878, is a significant architectural landmark with a grand courtroom.
