A prayer meeting was organised on Friday morning on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Bharat Ratna.

President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and many other members of the Union Cabinet and politicians paid floral tributes at his memorial ‘Sadhayv Atal’ located near Rajghat and remembered him.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the most popular leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who was seen as a man without enemies in Indian politics and known as a poet-hearted Prime Minister, died on 16 August 1998 at the age of 94.

Born on 25 December 1924, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and then started his political journey from Jan Sangh and became the first leader to form a 13-day government in 1996 as the first Prime Minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

After this, he was elected Prime Minister twice from 1998 to 2004. True to his name, Atal Ji left his unique and unshakable mark on Indian politics. That is why his memorial has been named Sadaiv Atal after his death, where every year on 16 August, senior BJP leaders and workers gather to pay their tributes.

Among those who paid tributes to ‘Sadaiv Atal’ on Friday morning were the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Defense Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker, as well as BJP National President and Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Jayant Chaudhary, Harsh Malhotra, Atal Ji’s adopted daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya, Delhi State officials and MPs, etc.
