The Election Commission of India is going to hold an important press conference at 3 pm. In this, the dates of elections to the Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana Legislative Assemblies will be announced. Let us tell you that the Election Commission team had recently visited Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana and also held a meeting with the political parties and officers there.
In fact, the term of the Legislative Assemblies of Haryana and Maharashtra is ending on 3 November and 26 November respectively. The election panel also plans to hold assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir before 30 September. The Supreme Court has set this deadline.
For the first time, after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and the formation of a new Union Territory, there will be an assembly. On 31 October 2019, two Union Territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh came into existence.
Since then, elections could not be held in Jammu and Kashmir due to delimitation. After the delimitation of May 2022, the number of seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has now increased to 90.
In this way, elections are to be held on 43 assembly seats in Jammu and 47 assembly seats in Kashmir. In terms of security, conducting elections in Jammu and Kashmir is a big challenge for the Election Commission.
Terrorist incidents have increased rapidly in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 2 months. In such a situation, conducting elections successfully is a big responsibility on the shoulders of the Election Commission.
Many political parties are demanding that Jammu and Kashmir be given the status of a state again. The government says that elections will be held here first. After this the status of the state will be restored.
Let us tell you that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir will remain like Delhi. The local government here has not been given much power like the rest of the states. The Lieutenant Governor will be considered the real boss of the state.
Talking about Haryana, there are 90 assembly seats in this state and the BJP is running the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini. Let us tell you that there is a BJP government in Haryana for the last 1 decade. Currently three seats are vacant in the Haryana Legislative Assembly. BJP has 41 MLAs. Congress has 29, JJP has 10 and INLD and HLP have one MLA each. There are five independent MLAs in the House.
Let us tell you that in the 2019 assembly, BJP and JJP formed the government by forming an alliance. After this, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had a clean sweep in Haryana. But before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the 4-year-old alliance of BJP-JJP broke. Nayab Singh Saini was fielded in place of Manohar Lal Khattar. In the Lok Sabha elections that followed, BJP was successful in winning only half the seats i.e. 5 seats. Now the assembly elections are going to be held again in Haryana.
