The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has started psychological testing of the main accused in the shocking rape and murder case of a postgraduate trainee doctor in Kolkata. According to sources, a psychologist from the CBI team arrived in Kolkata on Saturday to assist the investigation team in this sensitive case. The tragic incident has ignited nationwide outrage, with responses pouring in from various sections of society.
The brutal rape and murder of the trainee doctor have not only shaken the medical community but also prompted widespread protests across the country. West Bengal Congress workers held a rally condemning the incident and demanding swift justice for the victim.
Medical professionals across the nation have expressed their anger and grief. Junior doctors and medical students from Mangalagiri AIIMS Hospital and Delhi’s Lady Hardinge Medical College held protests, calling for immediate action against the perpetrators. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has also stepped in, with its National President, Dr. Asokan, stating that the situation now requires the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dr. Asokan mentioned that the IMA will be writing to the Prime Minister, urging him to take strong action in this case.
Tensions reached a boiling point on August 14 when a massive mob, estimated to be between 5,000 and 7,000 people, stormed RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The mob attacked protesting doctors and medical students and attempted to ransack the hospital premises. The situation escalated quickly, forcing security officials to intervene and disperse the crowd to prevent further violence.
In response to the violent incidents, Kolkata police arrested 19 individuals on August 16, who were allegedly involved in the mob violence at the hospital. The authorities have promised strict action against those responsible for the unrest and any further attempts to disrupt the peace.
The entire nation was shaken on August 9 when the body of the postgraduate trainee doctor was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
