The ICC Chairman is likely to undergo a change by the end of the year as the current chairman, New Zealand’s Greg Barclay, has announced that he will be stepping down from the role.
The name of BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has come up as a possible contender for the role. According to the media reports, ‘India’s Jay Shah will take over as chair of the international Cricket Council after forcing the resignation of the incumbent Greg Barclay, amid a $US3 billion ($4.46 billion) dispute between the governing body and its major broadcast rights holder Star.
Two sources with knowledge of discussions, speaking on condition of anonymity because negotaiations are confidential, confirmed the move late on Tuesday night’.
Jay Shah has received endorsement from Cricket Australia, the England and Wales Cricket Board, among others to lead the International Cricket Council for at least three years under an amended constitution.
Jay Shah move can help the ICC solve the ongoing USD 3 Billion dispute with their major broadcasting partner, Star. They want to renegotiate the deal and reduce it to half, and this is where Jay Shah’s influence can be the savior for the ICC. There is no official confirmation from Jay Shah. The deadline to file for the position is set at August 27, 2024.
