On Wednesday an air store leaked from an Indian Air Force fighter plane due to a technical fault near Pokhran Firing Range area in Rajasthan. The Air Force has ordered an inquiry to probe the incident. There is no report of any loss of life or property.
In a statement, the Indian Air Force has confirmed that one of its fighter planes released ‘air stores’ near Pokhran Firing Range due to a technical fault but no loss of life or property has been reported.
In the context of the Indian Air Force, ‘air store’ is a term that refers generally to any external equipment or war material attached to the aircraft, which can be released or thrown during flight. It may include things like bombs, missiles, fuel tanks or other payloads, which are not part of the primary structure of the aircraft.
However, the exact nature of the air store has not been disclosed but the incident occurred during a routine operation when the air store accidentally leaked while usually carrying war material, bombs or other military equipment from the aircraft.
The Indian Air Force said that an inquiry has been ordered to probe the causes of the technical glitch. The Pokhran Firing Range located in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan is a major site for testing and training exercises of the Indian Armed Forces.
In July 2023, an Indian Air Force plane had a technical glitch in Balushasan village of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, due to which the external items kept in it had to be thrown away.
Parts resembling two fuel tanks of the Indian Air Force plane were found in a field in the village. According to Indian Air Force officials, the plane, which had gone for a training mission, had a technical glitch, due to which the external items kept in it had to be thrown away.
