Jammu & Kashmir Assembly Election 2024: Second Phase Of Voting Continues, Voting Is Taking Place On 26 Seats

Voting for the second phase has started in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and will continue till 6 pm. Voting is being held on 26 seats in 6 districts of the state of which 3 districts are in Jammu division and 3 districts are from the valley. In the second phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, 10.22 % voting has taken place till 9 am. There are long queues outside the polling stations. It is expected that the voter turnout will be good in this phase as well.

Over 25 lakh voters of the state are deciding the fate of 239 candidates in EVMs. The Election Commission has set up 3,502 polling stations in these areas. These include 1,056 urban polling stations and 2,446 rural polling stations.

At the same time, voters are participating enthusiastically in this great festival of democracy as people are standing in queues since morning to cast their votes. The seats where voting is taking place include Kangan (ST), Ganderbal, Hazratbal, Khanyar, Habbakadal, Lal Chowk, Channapora, Zadibal, Idgah, Central Shalteng, Budgam, Beerwah, Khansahib, Charar-e-Sharif, Chadoora, Gulabgarh (ST), Reasi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Kalakote – Sunderbani, Nowshera, Rajouri (ST), Budhal (ST), Thannamandi (ST), Surankot (ST), Poonch Haveli and Mendhar (ST).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on X (formerly Twitter), “Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweets, “Today is the second phase of voting for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. I appeal to all voters to cast their vote and play their important role in strengthening democracy. On this occasion, I congratulate all the young friends who are going to vote for the first time.”

Prominent candidates of the second phase include former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, JKPCC President Tariq Hamid Karra and BJP Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ravinder Raina. Tight security arrangements have been made in all the six districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Security forces have also been deployed at the polling stations. Soldiers have been deployed at every nook and corner. Three out of the six districts, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch, have been witnessing continuous terrorist attacks for the past three years.
