India has overtaken Japan to become the third most powerful country in Asia. Notably, it was said in the new Asia Power Report released by Australia’s Lowy Institute. This report released by Australia’s Lowy Institute evaluates national power on the basis of economic relations, military capabilities, cultural influence and political flexibility.
According to the new report released by Australia’s Lowy Institute, America is the most powerful country in the world. It has retained its position as the most powerful country in the ranking released. According to the report, America scored 81.7. At the same time, China is in second place with 72.7. This year India scored 39.1, which is an increase of 2.7 points from 2023. According to the new report released by Australia’s Lowy Institute, India is ahead of other countries like Australia, Russia, South Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia.
At the same time, Pakistan is at 16th place after the Philippines and North Korea. India’s rise in the ranking is being attributed to many factors, especially economic growth. India leads among major economies with a growth rate of 8.2 % in 2023-24. In addition, India’s young population puts it in a favorable position to tap future resources. The report also highlights India’s growing diplomatic influence.
Experts noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s increased global leadership and strategic ambition, as evidenced by India’s active participation in international dialogues and successful hosting of the G20 summit in 2023. The country also saw significant improvements in its national resilience score, including internal stability.
According to the report, a key issue is India’s relatively weak economic integration with other Asian countries, highlighted by its decision not to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Additionally, India has enhanced its defense diplomacy, but lacks deep defense alliances. The absence of strong defense partnerships could limit India’s ability to influence security dynamics in the region.
