The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Punjab government to hand over the land required for various pilot projects of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to the concerned contractors on or before October 15.
A division bench of Justice Suresh Thakur and Justice Kuldeep Tiwari gave this order while hearing a petition filed by the National Highways Authority. The High Court made it clear that the land should be transferred to the NHAI in the coming days for its needs.
The High Court also said that after the completion of the land acquisition process, NHAI will have to file an affidavit by October 15, in which it will have to confirm the vacant and unencumbered possession of the acquired land.
It will be necessary to submit this affidavit in the court on October 16. The High Court also talked about completing the projects quickly after the land acquired by the NHAI is handed over to the contractors. The High Court also said that the projects should be monitored. In this case, the High Court ordered the Director General of Police of Punjab and the concerned Deputy Superintendents to monitor the projects through video conferencing.
On the other hand, in the petition of NHI on which the High Court gave its verdict, it was said that the process of land acquisition has almost been completed but the funds are not being released, due to which the formalities of land acquisition are not being completed.
