Subrahmanyam Chandrasekhar was born on October 19, 1910, in Lahore, Pakistan, then part of India. He was an Indian-American astronomer who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1983, jointly with William A. On October 19, 1960, the Indian Air Force inducted its first domestically made fighter jet, the MiG-21, which had previously been imported from Russia. The MiG-21 played a key role in major conflicts, including the 1971 Indo-Pak War and the 1999 Kargil War. While Russia ceased production in 1985, India continued using upgraded versions.
