After serious allegations of corruption in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, preparations are being made to start the process of departmental inquiry against two doctors. It is alleged that the head of the Forensic Medicine Department of this hospital, Dr. Devashish Som and Associate Professor Dr. Sujata Ghosh are involved in the corruption related case in the hospital.
In this case, the CBI has sent a letter to the state health department against these two doctors, in which departmental action has been recommended. According to CBI sources, in this letter sent on October 9, the Health Secretary and the Chief Secretary of the state were informed that the role of these two doctors is suspicious in the corruption going on in RG Kar Hospital.
The Health Department told the CBI that they were not aware of this matter earlier, but on the basis of the letter of CBI, steps can be taken to start the process of departmental inquiry. A senior official of the Health Department said that after the allegations of CBI, the department has sent a reply and preparations are being started for departmental inquiry of the related allegations.
According to an official of the Health Building, R.G., the budget approval sought by Kar Hospital from the Health Department for the purchase of medicines and medical supplies was approved by the department. Detailed information in this regard has been given to the CBI. Earlier, during the hearing of the case in the Supreme Court, the lawyer of the doctors of RG Kar Hospital had said that no action has been taken so far against the officials involved in corruption in the college.
The state lawyer said that the CBI is investigating the matter and the state government will consider taking action against the officials involved in corruption if their names are shared. The CBI sent a letter to the Health Department, in which the names of Dr. Devashish Som and Dr. Sujata Ghosh were mentioned. According to the CBI, these two doctors have been called for questioning several times, and they are accused of being ‘close’ to former Principal Sandeep Ghosh. It has been claimed that concrete evidence of their involvement in corruption and illegal financial transactions has been found.
