On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said at the Anti-Terrorism Conference-2024 that the Center will soon release a national counter-terrorism policy and strategy. Shah said that law and order is a state subject but terrorism knows no territorial boundaries. The Union Home Minister said in the opening session of the two-day conference that we are taking the next step in the proactive approach that the Home Ministry has made to fight terrorism, terrorists and the terrorism ecosystem.
He said, “We will come up with a national counter-terrorism policy and strategy in a few months but as I said, police is a state subject and the fight will have to be done by the state police. From giving information to taking action, all the central agencies will support you.” Shah said that the Center cannot handle law and order in such a big country. As far as dealing with terrorism is concerned, the states have their own limitations.
He further added, ‘States have geographical boundaries, constitutional boundaries as well but terrorism and terrorists have no boundaries. They also do interstate and international conspiracies’. ‘If we have to formulate a precise strategy against this, then a strong mechanism to fight against terrorism, narcotics, hawala and activities that endanger the country’s border, economy and security will have to be created through such conferences using the NIA’, said Amit Shah.
On the news of RDX being seized by central agencies not being given priority in the media, Shah said that when RDX is recovered, it does not even get two columns of space, but when bombs made of the same RDX explode, there is extensive coverage in the media for several days.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that 75 years have passed since independence. So far, 36,468 police personnel have sacrificed their lives to maintain the internal security of the country and the security of the borders. Shah paid tribute to all of them.
He said that within 10 years of Prime Minister Modi becoming the Prime Minister of the country, the Government of India adopted a solid strategy against terrorism. His call for zero tolerance against terrorism has been accepted not only by India but the whole world today. A strong ecosystem has been created within India to fight terrorism. However, a lot of work still needs to be done
