On Wednesday Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various development works worth about Rs 12,100 crore in Darbhanga, Bihar. These include 25 projects in the health, road, rail and energy sectors including Darbhanga AIIMS.
The Prime Minister said in a public meeting held in Darbhanga that our government always stands for the development of the people of the country. We have laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development works worth Rs 12,100 crore in a single program. He said that a lot of development is taking place in Bihar. The NDA government is committed to the welfare of the people.
Referring to the first phase of voting for the assembly elections in the neighboring state of Jharkhand today, he said that the people of Jharkhand are voting to fulfill the dream of ‘Developed Jharkhand’. He urged all the voters of Jharkhand to participate in the voting in maximum numbers. The Prime Minister also remembered the eminent folk singer late Sharda Sinha in his address. He said that the way Sharda Sinha took the glory of the great festival Chhath to the whole world through her songs is amazing.

The Prime Minister said that our government is working with a holistic approach towards health in the country. The first focus is on disease prevention. The second focus is on proper diagnosis of the disease. The third focus is to provide free and cheap treatment to the people, they should get cheap medicines. The fourth focus is to provide the best treatment facilities even in small cities, to overcome the shortage of doctors in the country. The fifth focus is to expand technology in health services.
He said that the construction of Darbhanga AIIMS will bring a huge change in the health sector of Bihar. Apart from Mithila, Kosi and Tirhut region, people of West Bengal and many nearby areas will get facilities from this. Patients coming from Nepal will also be able to get treatment in this AIIMS. AIIMS will create many employment and self-employment opportunities here.
PM Modi said that about four crore people in the country have been treated with the ‘Ayushman Bharat Yojana’. If there was no Ayushman Bharat Yojana, most of these people would not have been able to get admitted to the hospital. The Prime Minister said that crores of families have saved about Rs 1.25 lakh crore due to the Ayushman Yojana. He targeted the Congress for not increasing the number of AIIMS in the country and said that for 60 years after independence, there was only one AIIMS in the country.
‘In such a situation, every person suffering from any disease had to go to AIIMS, Delhi. Our government established new AIIMS hospitals in many parts of the country. Today there are 24 AIIMS hospitals in the country. Our government decided that any person can get medical education in his mother tongue and become a doctor. In a way, this work is the biggest tribute to Karpuri Thakur’, said PM Modi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that in the last 10 years we have added one lakh new medical seats and in the next five years, 75 thousand new medical seats will be added in the country. Our government has taken another big decision, which will also benefit the youth of Bihar. We will soon provide the option of medical education in Hindi and other Indian languages. He said that the cancer hospital being set up in Muzaffarnagar will benefit patients as they will get better treatment within the state and will not have to go out of the state. Bihar will also get a big eye hospital.
