On Wednesday afternoon, the Central Industrial Industrial Force (CISF) control room at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport received a bomb threat on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the media reports, an unidentified caller informed the control room about a supposed plot to bomb the airport where the caller specifically mentioned an individual named Mohammad, was allegedly carrying explosives on a flight departing from Mumbai to Azerbaijan.
Upon receiving the threat, the CISF personnel immediately alerted the Sahar Police and launched a swift security check at the airport premises. Furthermore, the authorities intensified surveillance and conducted thorough checks to ensure passenger safety.
Amid a surge in airline threat calls, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) stepped up security measures nationwide. A Kolkata-bound IndiGo flight with over 180 passengers and six crew members onboard made an emergency landing at Raipur airport on Thursday morning following a bomb threat to the aircraft, police said.
The aircraft initially took off from Nagpur for Kolkata, and was diverted after airport authorities received the threat, Raipur’s Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh said. This comes as more than 450 hoax calls were reported in October, raising widespread concern regarding the potential implications for passenger safety and national security.
