Jharkhand is recording the second and final phase of polling in 38 of the 81 assembly constituencies, which started at 7 am and continues until 5 pm in most booths. This phase is crucial for key leaders, including Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his wife Kalpana Soren (JMM), and BJP’s Amar Kumar Bauri. Over 1.23 crore voters, including 60.79 lakh women, will decide the fate of 528 candidates.
The ruling INDIA bloc, led by the JMM, Congress, and RJD, has promised welfare schemes. On the other hand, the NDA, spearheaded by the BJP and allies like the AJSU Party, has targeted the JMM-led coalition over alleged corruption, infiltration, and Hindutva issues. With 14,218 polling stations set up, including 239 exclusively run by women, the Election Commission reports a record seizure of illegal cash and materials worth Rs 200 crore since the Model Code of Conduct was enforced. In 2019, the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance secured 47 seats, while the BJP won 25, down from 37 in 2014.
The voter turnout in the second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections was recorded at 12.71% by 9 am, according to data from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
