Punjab Police has arrested two henchmen of terrorist gangster Lakhbir Landa in an encounter in Jalandhar. Two policemen were also injured during the encounter. Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav said in the information released that this encounter took place on Friday morning.
The arrested criminals include Jaskaran Singh alias Karan of Bhikha Nangal village and Fatehdeep Singh alias Pradeep Saini, a resident of Phagwara. Police have recovered a total of seven pistols and cartridges from their possession. The weapons were kept in a bag and the injured police constable and both the gangsters have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said that both the henchmen arrested are gangsters and were released on bail from jail. They were in contact with Lakhbir Landa sitting abroad. After his recovery, detailed inquiry will be done about this and the police had received input that two associates of Landa gang were moving in the area of Police Station Sadar. The team of Crime Branch under the leadership of incharge Ravinder Kumar started chasing them.
Police surrounded them in village Kangniwal. Police first alerted the villagers so that there is no damage to the village in case of an encounter. All of them were asked to stay inside their homes. The entire area adjacent to the fields was also evacuated. Seeing the police cordon, the gangsters started firing.
Two constables were injured in the firing and police also retaliated. There was continuous cross firing from both sides for a few minutes. About 50 rounds of firing took place. During the action, both the gangsters were injured by police bullets. When the firing from both sides stopped, the police team took both of them into custody from the spot. Police took both the injured henchmen out of the fields and sent them to the hospital for treatment in an ambulance.
