The 59th All-India DGP-IGP Conference, a three-day event held in Bhubaneswar, concluded on Sunday, December 1, 2024 under strict security measures. Key attendees included Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The conference featured comprehensive discussions on current and emerging national security challenges, such as counter-terrorism, red-terrorism, cybercrime, economic security, immigration, coastal security, and narcotics trafficking.
During the valedictory session, the Prime Minister presented the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service to officers of the Intelligence Bureau. In his concluding address, he highlighted the extensive discussions that had taken place regarding both national and international security challenges and expressed satisfaction with the counter-strategies that emerged.

The Prime Minister voiced concerns about potential threats stemming from digital fraud, cyber-crime, and AI technology, particularly the risk posed by deep fakes to disrupt social and familial relationships. As a countermeasure, he urged police leadership to turn these challenges into opportunities by leveraging India’s dual AI strengths of Artificial Intelligence and ‘Aspirational India’. He expanded on the concept of SMART policing, calling for police forces to be strategic, meticulous, adaptable, reliable, and transparent.
Commending initiatives in urban policing, he proposed that these efforts be consolidated and implemented comprehensively across 100 cities in the country. He also advocated for the use of technology to alleviate the workload on constables and suggested that police stations should serve as central points for resource allocation. The Prime Minister discussed the success of hackathons in addressing critical issues and proposed the idea of holding a National Police Hackathon. He emphasised the need to expand focus on port security and to develop a future action plan in this area.

He encouraged the police to modernise and align with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
