Seoul: South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has apologized to the public with folded hands for his declaration of martial law in the past days. However, he did not offer to resign. Yoon has to face the opposition’s impeachment motion in the full session of the National Assembly today. The ruling party has already announced that it will not support President Yeol.
According to The Korea Times newspaper, President Yoon Suk Yeol addressed the nation on television from his office at 10 am today (South Korean time). He said that he will not escape from his political and constitutional responsibility. Nor does he want to escape. He will hand over everything to the ruling party.
The President said that he is sincerely apologizing to the country. He said that he is assuring that there will never be another martial law now. He will hand over everything to the ruling People’s Power Party (PPP). Yeol said that political stability is necessary in the country. PPP will give stability to the country. PPP and the government will jointly discharge this responsibility. President Yoon Suk Yeol said (bowing his head), “I apologize to the public for this situation.” He ended his address by bowing to the public.
