New Delhi, 25 December (H.S.): On the birth centenary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) gathered at BJP president J P Nadda’s residence. Present at the meeting were top leaders such as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, JD-U leader and Union minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Apna Dal (S) president and Union minister Anupriya Patel, as well as JD (S) leader and Union minister H D Kumaraswamy. Other prominent leaders like Bihar’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (S) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi, Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) president Upendra Kushwaha, and Thushar Vellappally, president of Bharath Dharma Jana Sena, were also present at the meeting.
While the official agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, sources suggest that discussions revolved around good governance and political issues. This is a significant topic considering that good governance was a key theme of Vajpayee’s government. The leaders also decided to hold a meeting of the alliance on his birth anniversary, highlighting his successful tenure as the leader of India’s first coalition government.
The NDA meeting also comes at a time when the alliance is keen on simultaneous elections, with all the constituents lending their support to the proposal.
A Joint Parliamentary Committee has been formed to review two bills related to this matter and it is expected to meet on January 8.
