Chandigarh, 30 December (H.S.): In support of the agitating farmers in Punjab, many organizations have jointly announced a bandh on Monday. The farmer organizations Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Samyukta Kisan Morcha, which are leading the movement, have called for a Punjab bandh on 30 December.
While few farmer organizations are not united on this, many organizations have supported the bandh. It is believed that life in Punjab may be affected today.
The hunger strike being conducted by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal entered the 35th day today. Late night Dallewal has released a video and appealed to reach Khanori and join the bandh.
On December 31, the Punjab government will file a reply in the Supreme Court regarding Dallewal’s health.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has announced to keep all its offices closed on December 30 in support of the farmers’ movement. SGPC has decided to cancel the meeting scheduled for December 30 and call an interim committee meeting on December 31. Punjab Roadways bus unions have also spoken of supporting the farmers. Employees of Punjab Animal Husbandry Department have also supported the bandh.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher has said in his message that people should leave their homes only if it is very necessary because only emergency services will continue. During this time, buses and trains will be stopped from 7 am to 4 pm. During this time, all government and private institutions will also be closed. Pandher said that Punjab Bandh is getting support from all sections.
