India has witnessed a revolutionary transformation in employment over the past decade, thanks to the visionary leadership of the current government. Under the stewardship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the nation has achieved an extraordinary milestone: the creation of over 17 crore new jobs between 2014 and 2024. This remarkable achievement, validated by data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), stands in stark contrast to the 2.9 crore jobs created during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) era from 2004 to 2014.
Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, in an exclusive statement, emphasized the unparalleled progress made in job creation. He mentioned that according to RBI’s data between 2004 and 2014, during the UPA’s 10-year tenure, only 2.9 crore jobs were created. In contrast, in just one year, 2024, the interim government has generated 4.9 crore jobs.
The decade-long tenure of the Modi government has yielded an astounding 17.6 crore new jobs, a leap of 36% in employment growth compared to the modest 6% increase during the UPA years. The year 2023-24 alone saw the creation of 4.6 crore jobs—a testament to the administration’s focused and result-oriented approach.
Key economic sectors have experienced unprecedented growth including:
* Agriculture Sector: Once marred by a 16% decline under the UPA, agriculture rebounded with a 19% rise in employment between 2014 and 2023, showcasing a renewed commitment to rural and agrarian development.
* Manufacturing Sector: Employment in manufacturing surged by 15% during the past decade, a significant improvement over the 6% growth achieved in the previous decade.
* Services Sector: As a backbone of the economy, the services sector flourished with a 36% growth rate under the NDA government, compared to 25% during the UPA years.
India’s unemployment rate dropped dramatically, from 6% in 2017-18 to a mere 3.2% in 2023-24, demonstrating the efficacy of strategic labor reforms and economic policies. The employability of graduates has seen a phenomenal rise, climbing from 33.95% in 2013 to 54.81% in 2024.
Youth employment has also seen a historic boost. The employment rate for young individuals increased from 31.4% in 2017-18 to 41.7% in 2023-24. Additionally, 4.7 crore young Indians aged 18-28 entered the formal job market under the EPFO framework between September 2017 and September 2024, further solidifying the government’s commitment to empowering the nation’s youth.
These achievements are not mere statistics but a reflection of the government’s unwavering focus on growth, inclusion, and empowerment. By creating millions of jobs across key sectors, fostering skill development, and enhancing employability, the Modi government has laid a robust foundation for a self-reliant and prosperous India.
As the country celebrates this decade of unparalleled job creation, it sets a shining example of what visionary leadership and decisive governance can achieve. This transformation marks the dawn of a new era, where India is not just a participant but a leader in the global employment landscape
