Seoul, 6 January (H.S.): The President of South Korea, Union Suk Yeol, has taken a bold step by opening a legal front against the country’s investigating agency, the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO). This move comes after the CIO attempted to execute a warrant to detain President Yeol, who is currently under impeachment. On Monday, Yeol’s lawyers filed a complaint against the head of the CIO and 10 others for their actions in trying to detain the President.
According to reports, there was a conflict between security staff at the President’s residence and CIO officials for an hour on Friday when they attempted to serve the warrant. The complaint alleges that the CIO acted illegally in executing the warrant and that they had no right to mobilize police officers for this effort.
The lawyers have also filed complaints against the Acting National Police Agency Commissioner-General and Acting Defense Minister for their involvement in the matter.
