Kolkata, 10 January (H.S.) – Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat is scheduled to visit West Bengal for a 10-day tour starting February 9. Accompanied by eight other senior RSS functionaries, including General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, the visit is set to focus on strengthening the Sangh’s activities in the state ahead of the pivotal Assembly elections next year.
This visit, deemed historic by insiders, marks the first time such a significant contingent of top RSS leaders will be touring West Bengal simultaneously. The tour’s itinerary reflects the organisation’s growing focus on the state, underscored by its strategic importance both politically and culturally.
His programs schedule has been divided into three parts –
Southern Bengal Focus (Feb 9-11): The tour begins with three days of meetings in southern districts, where Bhagwat will assess and guide the organisation’s grassroots activities.
Burdwan Session (Feb 11-16): The delegation will then shift to Burdwan in East Burdwan district to focus on central Bengal’s tribal regions. These sessions aim to enhance outreach in the region’s tribal-dominated pockets.
Public Rally: On February 16, the visit will culminate with a public rally in Burdwan, showcasing the Sangh’s vision and approach.
While RSS has officially described the visit as a routine organisational exercise, political analysts believe its timing is significant. With reports of ongoing communal violence targeting Hindus in neighbouring Bangladesh, the visit gains further importance for West Bengal, which shares the longest international border with Bangladesh.
