The Budget session of Parliament will begin on 1st February 2024. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the press, talking about his government’s agenda for the session and reaffirming his commitment to making India a developed country by 2047. PM Modi expressed confidence that this Budget session will bring new confidence and energy in achieving the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
PM Modi said, “This is the first full Budget of my third term. I can say with full confidence that by 2047, when India marks 100 years of independence, this Budget will instill trust and enthusiasm among the people”. He emphasized that 140 crore Indians will play a major role in achieving this vision. He further invoked the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, expressing hope that the Budget would bring prosperity to the poor and middle class, saying, “Ahead of the Budget Session, I bow down to Maa Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.”
He remarked, “You must have noticed, since 2014, this is the first Parliament session that has seen no ‘videshi chingari’ (foreign interference) in our affairs, no foreign forces trying to ignite a fire. I have noticed this before every Budget session. And many in our country leave no stone unturned to fan these sparks. This is the first session without any foreign meddling”.
PM Modi emphasized that his government, in its third term, will focus on “all-round development.” He said, “Innovation, inclusion, and investment have been the foundation of our economic activities”. PM Modi said, “In the third term, in Mission MODE, we will drive the country toward all-round development—whether in geographical, social, or economic aspects. We are heading towards Mission MODE.”
Reiterating his government’s guiding philosophy, he said, “Reform, Perform, and Transform.” He added, “When we aim to accelerate development, the most emphasis is on reform. The central and state governments have to perform, and transformation can be witnessed through public participation,” he added.
A series of important bills are likely to be taken up during the session, including:
Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024 – aimed at strengthening banking regulations and oversight.
Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024 – focuses on enhancing the operational efficiency of Indian Railways.
Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024 – seeks to improve disaster response mechanisms across the country.
Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, 2024 – aim to bring reforms in the management of religious endowments.

Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024
Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024
Finance Bill, 2025
The first part of the Budget session will continue till February 13, and the second session will start on March 10 and will conclude on April 4.
