New Delhi, January 31 (HS): President Droupadi Murmu on Friday, while recounting the achievements of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, said that this Amritkaal of India’s development journey is being given new energy through unprecedented achievements. In the third term of the government, work is being done at a speed three times faster than the previous governments.
President Murmu was addressing the joint house during the budget session of Parliament. In her address, President Murmu cited the decisions taken on many issues like Waqf Board and one nation-one election and said that today the country is seeing big decisions and policies being implemented at an extraordinary speed. This is a matter of happiness. Before starting her address, the President paid tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The President also paid tribute to the devotees who died in the stampede on Mauni Amavasya at the Prayagraj Mahakumbh. She said that the Mahakumbh is a festival of India’s cultural tradition and social consciousness.
The President said that the government has decided to provide new houses to three crore additional families by expanding the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. It is planned to spend Rs 5 lakh 36 thousand crore for this. The President said that the government has worked with strong willpower to rescue the economy from situations like policy paralysis. She said that the stability and resilience shown by the Indian economy despite global concerns like Covid and the situation after it and war is proof of its strength. She said that the government has paid special attention to the education of the youth and is creating new employment opportunities for them. One crore youth will also be given internship opportunities in the top five hundred companies. A new law has been implemented to prevent incidents of paper leak and ensure transparency in recruitment. The President said that after the removal of Article 370, a new environment of development has been created in Jammu and Kashmir. The Lok Sabha and Assembly elections were held there in a very peaceful atmosphere. She said that the government has made efforts to end the feeling of isolation among the people of the Northeast. By signing more than ten peace agreements, the government has worked to connect many groups on the path of peace. The President described digital fraud, cyber-crime and deepfake as a challenge to social, economic and national security. She said that the government has taken several steps to control these cyber-crimes. There are also employment opportunities for youth in the field of cyber security. The government is continuously working towards ensuring efficiency in cyber security. As a result, India has achieved Tier-1 status in the Global Cyber Security Index.
Referring to the work of the government to facilitate urban traffic, the President said that only a few weeks ago, work on the Rithala-Narela-Kundli Metro Corridor has started in Delhi, which will be one of the major sections of the Delhi Metro network. She said that in 2014, the total metro network in Delhi-NCR was less than 200 km. Now it has more than doubled. She said, “India’s metro network has now crossed the milestone of one thousand kilometers. India has now become the third largest country in the world in terms of metro network.”
The President said that today India is making its presence felt as a major global player in the field of digital technology. The launch of 5-G services in India along with the big countries of the world is a big example of this. She said that many developed countries of the world are also impressed by the success of India’s UPI technology. Today more than 50 percent of real time digital transactions are taking place in India.
The President said that the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project has been completed and now the country will be connected by railway line from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Under this ambitious project, Chenab Bridge has been constructed which is the world’s highest rail bridge. The President said that her government has not only recognised the contribution of the middle class but has also appreciated it on every occasion. The government is also working to ensure fair price for agricultural produce and increase the income of farmers. She said that under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, it has been decided to provide health insurance to six crore senior citizens aged seventy years and above. She said that the limit of Mudra loan for small entrepreneurs has been increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.
The President said that for the welfare of government employees, the Central Government has decided to constitute the Eighth Pay Commission. She said that a decision has also been taken to provide fifty percent assured pension to lakhs of central government employees under the Unified Pension Scheme.
The President said that in the last two years, the government has provided a record number of ten lakh permanent government jobs. Referring to the achievements of the defense sector, the President said that a few days ago, two warships and a submarine built in the country have been commissioned in the Indian Navy.
