Delhi/Mumbai, 4 February (HS): Suryakumar Yadav has been included in the Mumbai team for the Ranji Trophy quarter-final match against Haryana to be held from February 8. Mumbai Cricket Association gave the above information on its website.
This match will be played at Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium, Lahli. Ajinkya Rahane will lead the team. Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal will not be able to play in this match due to India’s three-match ODI series against England starting February 6.
It has been told on the Mumbai Cricket Association website that this match will give Suryakumar some time to regain his form. He has scored 28 runs in five innings against England and has scored just 66 runs in his last 10 innings in all competitive cricket for India and the state.
Bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who is not in India’s plans at the moment, will look to continue his impressive form for Mumbai ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy starting on February 19.
All-rounder Shivam Dube, who had a stellar season in the two matches against England in the T20s, scoring 83 runs including a half-century and two wickets, has also been included in the squad.
Shardul had bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his innings of 84 runs in the first innings and four wickets in both the innings against Meghalaya. So far in seven matches, he has taken 24 wickets at an average of 23.95 with a best of 4/43. With the bat, in eight innings, Thakur has scored 381 runs at an average of 47.62 with a century and three fifties at an incredible strike rate of 101.87. His best score is 119.
Promising youngsters Ayush Mhatre and Suryansh Shedge are also in the squad.
Mumbai finished the league stage in second place in Group A with four wins, two losses and a draw, giving them 29 points. One of their shocking losses came against Jammu and Kashmir, who defeated a full-strength Mumbai side comprising Rohit, Jaiswal, Rahane, Iyer, Dube and Thakur by five wickets. Mumbai will be aiming to progress in the tournament and clinch their record 43rd title.
